Sydney Becker is a lighting designer for live performance hailing from Margate, New Jersey, currently based in Florida.
A graduate from Princeton University, where she obtained a B.A. in anthropology and a certificate in theater with a focus on design, Sydney worked with the Lewis Center and the Program in Theater at Princeton on over twelve productions, including productions of Into the Woods, Cloud 9, The Seagull, Singin' in the Rain, and How I Learned to Drive. In addition to her work in the Program in Theater, she also designed over 40 productions for various student theater groups on campus. Her senior theater thesis at Princeton was a production of Mad Forest by Caryl Churchill, which she designed set and lighting for, as well as serving as the production's dramaturg.
Post graduation, Sydney was the 2017-2018 Allen Lee Hughes Lighting Fellow at Arena Stage in D.C., and was the Lighting Supervisor for Glimmerglass Festival’s 2018, 2019, and 2021 seasons. She completed her M.F.A. in Lighting Design in 2021 at the University of Massachusetts Amherst under the mentorship of Penny Remsen.
Since completing her studies Sydney has branched into the world of television, currently working as a Lighting Assistant at the studios for Home Shopping Network in St. Petersburg.
